How Anxiety Works [Comic]

Emma Murray Emma Murray Last Updated:

Anxiety, on some level, is a feeling we all deal with. There are even positives to this stress–consider how you start working on a project when that deadline starts to sneak forward.

However, anxiety can tip from a helpful reminder to an out of control stressor that consumes our everyday. We’ve done a comic explaining how that might happen…

How Anxiety Works comic

Anxiety triggers can come from anywhere: troubles in relationships with friends and family, excess stress from work, money issues, etc. A significant aspect of dealing with anxiety is knowing what causes the tipping point for you.

Automatic Negative Thoughts or ANTS can contribute to growing anxiety. Dr. Daniel G. Amen, a psychiatrist and author, describes these as “cynical, gloomy, and complaining thoughts that just seem to keep coming all by themselves.” If the pattern of thought isn’t changed, then these thoughts can lead to self-fulfilling prophecies. It’s important to recognize your patterns, and how they could be impacting your mental health.

Dealing with anxiety is difficult, and something one comic alone can’t teach you to do. If you are finding yourself struggling, consulting a mental health professional is always advised.

My anxiety is in check. Got any more comics?

I’m glad to hear that. Since you asked, we do have a few more comics.

If you’re a creative, there’s also a good chance you’re a freelancer. We did a comic explaining the different issues freelancers deal with when working with clients. It’s likely that you, at least occasionally, work from home. In that case, you’re in for a treat. We’ve done a comic about the differences between working from home and working from an office as well as a choose your own productivity adventure!

If you’re a freelancer, chances are someone has probably asked you to work for free. If you find yourself in that situation, try out our Freelance Email Generator.  Just let us know how much money was offered and how professional you’d like the response to be, then let the generator do its thing!

And finally, whether you’re a creative or a freelance creative (or neither) we also have this free, easy-to-use tool for tracking time. We can’t guarantee that our tool will banish your anxiety. But effectively managing your time could help with anxiety–who knows?

We’ll also keep doing these comics, so like us on Facebook and follow us on Instagram if you want these delivered directly to you!

We also post on LinkedIn if you want to pretend you’re doing work.
