Ah, the airport\u00a0\u2013 a veritable hell of long lines, frisky officers, expensive meals and\u00a0bad coffee. But to get to where we want to go, we must overcome. We want to share some helpful airport hacks and tips on how to make flying suck less.<\/p>\n

We do a lot of traveling, both to meet with our users and to keep our global team in touch. We\u2019re also rather impatient when it comes to idling and waiting, so it\u2019s safe to say we have quite a lot\u00a0to say on the subject.<\/p>\n

The bottom line is this \u2013 airports can be a real hassle, and the quicker we get through them, the better.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve provided some\u00a0written\u00a0tips after the jump, but first, take a look at this infographic which in theory should explain all:<\/p>\n

PRO AIRPORT HACKS<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Check-in Hacks<\/h2>\n

1.\u00a0Do it online<\/h3>\n

Most airlines have joined the modern era by now and online check-ins are more and more common. If you\u2019re traveling light, this allows you to skip the check-in queue\u00a0altogether. Since airports are little else than endless queues, this is a good thing.<\/p>\n

Also, when you check in online you might get a better choice of seats (if you\u2019re quick enough).<\/p>\n

2. Queue\u00a0close to the business\u00a0desk<\/h3>\n

The business queue is pretty empty most of the time and if it gets too quiet for too long, they\u2019ll start pulling in people from the regular line next to it, potentially making it move along quicker. Picking the line next to the business queue might save you quite a bit of time.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0Get a private jet<\/h3>\n

No, seriously.<\/em><\/p>\n

This option sounds like a fantasy, but private jet operators do offer incredibly cheap seats<\/a> on their aircraft in situations where the alternative is not to sell seats at all. Keep in mind that these are almost always last minute deals, but if you\u2019re willing to take the chance, you might strike gold.<\/p>\n

Security Area Hacks<\/h2>\n

Mmm yes \u2013\u00a0everyone\u2019s favorite for sure. It\u2019s your duty as a human being to make this line move along as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0Pack strategically<\/h3>\n

You know<\/em> they\u2019ll be screening your electronic devices separately, so make sure they are easy to pull out of your baggage. Bottom of the underwear pile is literally the worst place for your laptop in this situation.<\/p>\n

Same goes for zip lock bags with liquids \u2013 make sure you can get them out of your baggage quickly.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Pick the left line<\/h3>\n

Some studies\u00a0suggest that since most people are right-handed, they\u2019ll instinctively pick queues on the right-hand side. This means that typically there\u2019s less people in the queues to your left<\/a>. Unless you queue with too many people that have heard of this tip, you could easily shave off some time at the screening station.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0Know the rules<\/h3>\n

It might be a 15th-century ceremonial dagger to you, but to airport security, it\u2019s a sharp metal object. Make sure you\u2019re familiar with rules regarding what can and can\u2019t be brought on board an aircraft. Most of these rules are pretty universal, but it seems people still forget that bigger liquid containers are a no-no.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0Empty your pockets<\/h3>\n

Nothing wastes time more than fumbling with change before going through the metal detector. You\u2019re queueing for security, not groceries, so don\u2019t have anything on your person that you don\u2019t absolutely need<\/em> at that point. Keep your keys and coins in the hand baggage till you\u2019ve cleared security.<\/p>\n

Hanging at the Gate<\/h2>\n

The worst is over, but\u00a0there\u2019s a lot you can do to be more efficient with your waiting time.<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0Your gate is your castle<\/h3>\n

For the most up-to-date flight information, head to your gate\u00a0as soon as they announce it. It\u2019s not that the big information screens are inaccurate, but the gate always has the better information. It\u2019s also easier and quicker\u00a0to pick up on unexpected delays and changes \u2013 and these do happen.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Bring a power splitter<\/h3>\n

It\u2019s always good to fully charge all your devices before heading to the airport, but sometimes you\u2019ll be in for a longer wait and might start running out of juice.<\/p>\n

Power outlets can sometimes be scarce. To alleviate this problem, get yourself a power splitter. They\u2019re lightweight, cheap and carry the added benefit of helping you make new friends.<\/p>\n

3. Use headphones\u2026 for silence<\/h3>\n

Sure, they\u2019re essential if you want to watch a movie, but consider using them for noise cancellation. Our own Liisa does this a lot \u2013 mostly to block out noise while she\u2019s working. Keeping her\u00a0headphones unplugged, however, prevents her\u00a0from missing any important announcements.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0Excersise (sort of)<\/h3>\n

Our office manager Evelin has an interesting routine \u2013 she uses the longer waiting periods to fill in her daily physical activity, walking up and down the long corridors to\u00a0stay on\u00a0top her daily step count.<\/p>\n

Boarding Hacks<\/h2>\n

This is it \u2013 it\u2019s go time!<\/p>\n

Except that\u2019s it\u2019s not.\u00a0You know full well that once you get to your seat, you\u2019ll easily be spending another 30 minutes sitting in the plane before it goes anywhere.<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0Don\u2019t rush the gate<\/h3>\n

You have your seat\u00a0\u2013 the plane\u2019s not gonna leave without you. Some people like to queue up the second an attendant appears at the desk, but you should know better than that.<\/p>\n

If you stay put until the line starts to clear, you can use the extra time to\u00a0squeeze in some work.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Be the last to\u00a0board the plane<\/h3>\n

When you\u2019re the\u00a0last to board the plane and the aircraft is not full, you might be able to get yourself a better seat<\/a>. If you have an aisle ticket in the toilet row, see if there\u2019s a better spot somewhere else.<\/p>\n

Oh, and if you\u2019re cocky enough and can pull a good poker face, you might even get away with upgrading yourself to first class!<\/p>\n
