It made us think of all the other ways the same thing can be achieved. There isn\u2019t a right or wrong way, rather to each their own. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep on reading to find your go-to method of adding tasks or discover opportunities you might have missed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. The New Shortcut &#8211; N<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The shortcut is a great way to get straight into a task popup and figure out the details (dates, assignees etc.) from there. It opens up a new task popup that is pre-filled with certain information, depending on the view you\u2019re in.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>On Team Timeline &#8211; the task is automatically assigned to whoever is the first person in that team. Start and end dates are always equal to today\u2019s date, making it a one day task by default.<\/li><li>On <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/toggl.com\/blog\/create-project-timeline\"   title=\"Project Timeline\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">Project Timeline<\/a> &#8211; the task is automatically matched with the name, the first segment and the first status of the plan you\u2019re looking at. Start and end dates also match today, making it a one-day task. However, the task isn\u2019t assigned to anyone.\u00a0<\/li><li>On Plan Board &#8211; the task is automatically matched with the name, the first segment and the first status of the plan you\u2019re looking at. It will not have dates, but instead you\u2019ll find it in the leftmost column on the board. It works the same way as the N shortcut in terms of pre-filled properties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Click on a Team or Project Timeline<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Back to the roots! This is how most of the tasks in <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/toggl.com\/plan\/index\" title=\"Toggl Plan\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">Toggl Plan<\/a> are created. It\u2019s the most convenient and fastest way for two reasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Assuming you\u2019re looking at the right view, you can add a lot of relevant information (dates, plan, assignee) to the task just by picking the correct place on the timeline.&nbsp;<\/li><li>It\u2019s the fastest way to create a multi-day task &#8211; simply click and drag on the timeline to create a longer task in one move. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. \u2018+\u2019 and \u2018+Add Task\u2019 on Plan Boards<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"554\" src=\"https:\/\/toggl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Screenshot-2020-11-10-at-14.14.26-1024x554.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24282\" srcset=\"https:\/\/toggl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Screenshot-2020-11-10-at-14.14.26-1024x554.png 1024w, https:\/\/toggl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Screenshot-2020-11-10-at-14.14.26-300x162.png 300w, https:\/\/toggl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Screenshot-2020-11-10-at-14.14.26-768x415.png 768w, https:\/\/toggl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Screenshot-2020-11-10-at-14.14.26-1536x831.png 1536w, https:\/\/toggl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Screenshot-2020-11-10-at-14.14.26-2048x1108.png 2048w, https:\/\/toggl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Screenshot-2020-11-10-at-14.14.26-940x509.png 940w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In boards view, tasks can be added straight to the desired status column from one of the following two locations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>At the status header from the \u2018+\u2019 sign, in order to add a task to the top of the column.<\/li><li>At the bottom of the status column from the \u2018+Add Task\u2019 button to send the task to the bottom of the list. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Browser Extensions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Got an idea from an article you read or a memo in your inbox? Our <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Chrome (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/chrome.google.com\/webstore\/detail\/toggl-plan-project-planni\/hkccefhopobjcapedjbobimahkpcppnc?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\">Chrome<\/a> and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Firefox (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/en-US\/firefox\/addon\/toggl-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\">Firefox<\/a> Extensions allow you to create a task on any page you visit with the click of a button. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Duplicating a Task&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While technically you\u2019re duplicating a task, practically you\u2019re still adding a new one to your timeline. Duplicating a task is super easy and can be done in one of the following three ways:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>In timeline view, hold Cmd (Ctrl for PC) and drag an existing task on timeline. This will create a duplicate that you can release at your desired destination.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Alternatively, right-click on the task and choose Duplicate from the drop-down menu.<\/li><li>If you\u2019re already looking at a task popup, you\u2019ll find the Duplicate option in the top-right corner three-dot menu. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. You can find the option to duplicate a plan from the three-dot menu that appears on the sidebar when hovering over the desired plan or in the right-top corner from the three-dot menu in plan view. You\u2019ll then be prompted with a popup that gives you a choice between either only duplicating the plan and it\u2019s segments or also tasks within that plan. By choosing the latter, you\u2019ll create as many new tasks as your old plan had. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">8. Importing Tasks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of tediously copying data from a spreadsheet or a different tool to Toggl Plan, you can import tasks and their basic properties in bulk. Data import can be found in board view:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>For new Plans you&#8217;ll see the import button on the empty board.&nbsp;<\/li><li>For existing Plans you can import tasks from the 3-dot menu in the top right corner.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can find a link to our import file template in our <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Help Center (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/support.plan.toggl.com\/article\/164-data-import\" target=\"_blank\">Help Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">9. Recurring and Multi-Assigned Tasks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While technically you&#8217;re not creating new tasks, these features will still help you fill your timelines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>By adding multiple assignees to the task, the assignment will be automatically displayed on each person\u2019s timeline.&nbsp;This will speed up keeping everyone\u2019s timelines up to date as well make sure everyone involved has access to and is updated with the same information.<\/li><li>By making the task repeat, you&#8217;ll see it on your timelines at the interval of your choice. When making a change to a recurring task, you\u2019re changing all the instances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">10. Mobile App Timelines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While our mobile app is a work in progress and only supports Team and Project Timelines and a daily agenda view, you can still use it to add tasks to your timeline on the go. It\u2019s available in <a aria-label=\"Apple Store (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/gb\/app\/toggl-plan\/id1242738862#?platform=iphone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Apple Store<\/a> and <a aria-label=\"Google Play (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.teamweek.android.app&amp;hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Google Play<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If None of These Float Your Boat&#8230;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, there are also plenty of people who don\u2019t need to add tasks to Toggl Plan themselves. Toggl Plan is also a great team and freelancer management tool, making it super easy to assign tasks to colleagues or contractors and letting them marvel in the awesome feeling of marking tasks done.
