The Toggl Story
How it started
Back in early 2000s, Toggl was an Estonian IT company building software for clients. They faced the same problems agencies face today — not knowing how much time projects were taking; whether they were over- or undercharging their clients. So, they created a simple time tracking tool.
When clients wanted more insight into where time was spent, they’d give them a time report. Clients loved these reports! They started asking, "Hey, can we use the time tracker too?"
And Toggl Track was born.
Over the years
Toggl’s motley crew of tools developed just like this.
We hit productivity roadblocks, as every company does. And when we couldn't find a tool to fix it for us, we built one ourselves.

It's been 16 years since Toggl transitioned from a basic tool to a brand with multiple tools. While we have evolved in many ways, our core philosophy hasn't changed: we keep it simple — ensuring that tools are easy to adopt with minimal disruption to a user’s everyday workflow.
After all, even the best tool is a useless tool if the team doesn't use it.
