Why enable SSO?How to set it upThe real win

Introduction

Managing access to business tools requires both security and ease. Extra authentication steps slow teams down, while weak passwords create risks.

Single Sign-On (SSO) removes that friction. Employees sign in once using a trusted identity provider (IdP) like Google Workspace or Okta, ensuring fewer login issues, stronger security, and centralized access control.

For Toggl Track users, SSO isn’t just convenient — it streamlines user management, enforces security policies, and saves time.

Here’s how it works.

Why enable SSO?

1. Security Without the Gaps

Every login is a potential weak point. Every password reset is an opportunity for compromise. With SSO, authentication is handled through a single, secure, centrally-managed system — reducing exposure and strengthening control.

2. Your Team is Tired of Passwords

Employees should be thinking about their work, not their passwords. SSO eliminates login fatigue and lets them access Toggl Track with the credentials they already use for other business tools.

3. More Flexibility to Suit Your Needs

Toggl’s SSO capabilities bring added flexibility:

  • Multi-domain SSO setup — Allow users from multiple domains to access the same workspace. No need to limit access to a single email domain.
  • Multi-workspace access — Users can now access all the workspaces they’ve been invited to using a single domain.

4. User Management, Simplified

IT teams and administrators no longer need to manually track who has access. With SSO:

  • Automatically create user accounts — If someone from an approved domain logs in via SSO but isn’t a Toggl user yet, their account will be created automatically, and they’ll be added to relevant workspaces. This feature is disabled by default.
  • Add additional administrators to manage your SSO setup.
  • SSO-related activity logs — administrators can track authentication events for up to three months, making it easier to troubleshoot issues.

How to set it up

The setup is straightforward, because it should be.

  1. Create an SSO Profile in Toggl. Name it and attach it to your domain (e.g., yourcompany.com).
  2. Connect Your Identity Provider (IdP) by entering the required details from Google Workspace, Okta, or another authentication provider.
  3. Submit for Approval — Toggl will verify your setup to ensure everything is configured correctly.
  4. Customize Your Settings to fit your needs:
  • Enforce SSO-only login to restrict access through your identity provider only.

  • Assign additional administrators to manage the setup and ensure redundancy.

  • Automatically create user accounts for new employees when they log in via SSO. This feature is off by default and can be enabled once your SSO profile is linked to a Toggl Track workspace.

  • Check SSO-related events in the Activity Log to review authentication events and security-related logs for up to three months.
