What is Toggl's EU data hosting and what does it mean for you?

Toggl can host your data the European Union. EU-hosted organizations run on a separate deployment of Toggl in Google Cloud's Belgium region (europe-west1), with their own databases, so your application data at rest is stored in the EU.

EU hosting is available for Toggl. It isn't available for Toggl Track.

Your data, stored in the EU

Time entries, projects, tasks, clients, attachments, user accounts and backups are stored at rest in Google Cloud's Belgium region.

The EU version of Toggl doesn't share databases with the US version. EU accounts are separate from US accounts.

FAQs

Does EU hosting cost more?

No. Currently, EU-hosted organizations have the same plans and pricing as organizations in the US region.

Where exactly is my data stored with Toggl's EU hosting?

In Google Cloud's europe-west1 region in Belgium.

Do I need EU hosting to use Toggl in line with the GDPR?

No. Toggl OÜ is a company established in Estonia, so the GDPR applies directly to how we handle data for all customers, wherever their organization is hosted. Our Data Processing Agreement covers both regions. EU hosting is an option for organizations that prefer, or are required by their own policies or customers, to keep their application data stored in the EU.

Is EU hosting covered by Toggl's security certifications?

The EU deployment is run under the same information security management system and controls as the rest of Toggl. It will be included in the scope of our next SOC 2 Type 2 report, and it is included in the scope of our ISO 27001 certification.

Can I move my existing organization to the EU?

You can't move an existing organization from the US region to the EU region yourself. Get in touch with your Customer Success manager or reach out to Toggl support to discuss available options.

What's processed outside of the EU?

What's processed outside the EU

  • Sub-processors: Some of the services we use to run Toggl, such as our payment provider, are located outside the EU. Our sub-processor list shows each one and where it's located. Wherever our sub-processors are located, we use only providers bound by data processing terms that meet GDPR requirements.
  • Staff access: Toggl is a remote company, and some of our team members are based outside the European Economic Area. Where they need access to your data, for example to provide support or maintain the service, access is limited to what the task requires and protected by appropriate safeguards and controls.
Can I have one organization in the US region and another in the EU region?

Yes. They're fully separate, with separate accounts, logins and billing.

Is everything in Toggl available with EU hosting?

Almost everything. The remote MCP server isn't available on the EU version yet.

Is EU hosting available for Toggl Track?

No. EU hosting is available for Toggl only.
